Nine Star Education and Employment Services is dedicated to developing Alaska's workforce through quality education surrounding literacy, job readiness and professional development. Working with children, adults and senior citizens, Nine Star extends opportunities for the Anchorage community to excel and grow. These programs equip clients with the skills necessary to get a job, keep a job and advance on the job.

Established in 1975 as a broad-based training institution, Nine Star became a private nonprofit corporation in 1978 when it split from the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education following a decision by the Alaska Attorney General that its services would be better left to the private sector.

Nine Star Education and Employment Services is chartered by the State of Alaska and operates as a private, not-for-profit corporation with a community service orientation. It offers a wide array of educational and training programs as well as organizational development and technical services locally and statewide. Its educational and training programs are specially designed to prepare clients for success in the workplace.

Adult education classes, computer instruction, and work readiness workshops are some of Nine Star's primary programs. Staffed by experienced and enthusiastic employees, Nine Star offers clients and students knowledge and support to assist them in reaching their program goals.

As a nonprofit organization, Nine Star Education and Employment Services uses local and community resources, just as we teach our clients and students to do. Working closely with Americorps and AmeriCorps VISTA, two national volunteer programs,Nine Star programs are driven by skilled and experienced AmeriCorps and VISTA members from throughout the United States. As these members bring information and ideas from the lower 48, Nine Star also utilizes local resources: members of our own community. Community involvement in our programs increases awareness of issues that many of our community members face. It allows for solutions to be reached through the care, participation and skills of those with whom we live.
